It’s official: Amazon Japan has announced that they are officially starting pre-orders for the Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite 3G, and the Kindle Fire today; the Kindle Paperwhites will ship on November 19, and the Kindle Fire December 19. The Japanese Kindle Store launches tomorrow.
The Kindle Paperwhite will be selling at ¥8,480, cheaper than the Rakuten Kobo Touch, the Kindle Fire, which has a screen designed for playing games and watching video, at ¥12,800, and the Kindle Paperwhite 3G, which doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi hotspots, is just under ¥13,000.
The Kindle Store will launch with 50,000 different e-books, 10,000 of them free, with 15,000 manga titles. Amazon touts that they will have the largest and best selection of bestselling titles, including 68 Amazon exclusives.
The Kindle App will also be introduced into Japan, so that customers can read Amazon purchased content on PCs and smartphones as well.
