7 Authors Suing “Jisui” Book Scanning Companies

On December 20th, seven novelists and manga authors went to a Tokyo district court to file a lawsuit against two “jisui” proxy companies, the Asahi reports.
“Jisui” (自炊)is the term for making one’s own e-book by personally scanning all the pages by hand (well, computer). These seven authors wish to sue two proxy companies who do all that scanning work for you. The authors claim it violates copyright law, as the act, when done by these companies, is not done for personal use.
The seven authors are big names too: they include Higashino Keigo (The Devotion of Suspect X), Osawa Arimasa (Shinjuku Shark) Asada Jiro (The Stationmaster), and Nagai Go (creator of Cutie Honey, Mazinger G).
